Munster Cupcakes

We made these cupcakes last week after finding the candy eyes while shopping for a fun, easy, Halloween inspired treat. Everyone loved how adorable these turned out.

Simple prepare a store bought white cake mix according to the directions on the package. Line two cupcake pans with cupcake papers and divide the cake batter evenly into the lined tins (an ice cream scooper makes this so easy).
Add 4 or 5 drops of liquid food coloring to each cupcake and use a fork or tooth pick to swirl it. Make sure you swirl it deep down so when you bite into the cupcake after it is baked you will see the pretty colors.
Bake according to the directions on the cake mix package.
Allow the cupcakes to cool.

We used two containers of store bought vanilla frosting and colored one container green and one blue using gel food coloring like the ones available from Wilton. You want to use gel food coloring instead of liquid in the frosting to prevent it from changing the consistency of the frosting.

We put the frosting in two different piping bags using medium sized tips with ridges. We gently squeezed the bag pulling up each time until the cupcake was covered in order to great a spiky, furry looking face. Then we decorated with the candy eyes that are available in many stores with a cake decorating section, but if you cannot find them you can easily use miniature marshmallows with drop of black food coloring in the center of each marshmallow.
