Road Trip Essentials

When Tracy and I made our 101 in 1001 Days lists, we both put go on a road trip. This summer the time for that road trip has arrived. Tomorrow we are off to Florida and we are going on a road trip to get there. Summer is the perfect time for going on a road trip, whether it is a long or short one, with friends or family. The weather is just tempting you to get out and about doing fun, new, exciting things. After putting some thought into this trip I have devised a Road Trip Essentials list. After my trip I might have to come back to this post and revise some things.

Everyone will have a few items in their Road Trip Essentials list that are specific to them but here are some basics that everyone needs:
1. First of all if you want to actually make it to your destination you are going to need some maps or a GPS.
2. A toiletries kit(toilet paper, tissues, handsanitizer, cleaning wipes) is a must just encase the rest stop is not equipped with what you will need.
3. Save yourself some time and money by having a cooler of snacks and drinks. You cut back on the stops and on the money spent on refreshments.
4. Remember to have your car charger for your iPod and cell phone.
5. Make yourself comfy with a pillow and blanket when it's not your turn to do the driving.
6. This photo shows several things you will definitely want to take. You need your camera for all of the amazing things you will see along the way. Your phone is a must to keep track of everyone and to call home once in a while. On those sunny days your sunglasses will come in handy, especially when you are driving. Also don't forget change encase of toll booths or vending machines.
7. The last item on my essentials list is a notebook and pens. You can keep track of all of the fun you have along the way.

What else would you add to the list?

  3. Great list! I would add a first aid kit, important medicine, sunscreen, sunglasses. I'm a pro because we always have to leave for hurricanes :) Also a copy of directions on paper incase your gps fails and AAA insurance.

  14. All of these are definitely good things to have! I think the other thing I'd recommend is a converter so you can work on your computer if you want to or need to. I like to work on my writing when I travel with my parents, and since I can't drive, it means I get a lot of writing done. No internet, but you can work on other miscellaneous things. (Or play Spider Solitaire for four or five hours straight, you know). Also, if you're ever on a road trip with people that can't stop fighting, headphones are an absolute necessity, speaking from experience. It's much easier to avoid wanting to strangle people when you can't hear them arguing and angry about something stupid that happened ten or twenty years ago.

Have fun going to Florida and being there!
