Chit Chat

Today, I want to talk about birthdays. In our family we have our birthday traditions. We always have a homemade family dinner. The dinner consists of favorite foods of the birthday girl or boy. When we were little Mom would always make the birthday dinners but now that my sisters and I are older we help with the dinner or completely make the dinner if it is Mom's birthday. For dessert we always have a store bought birthday cake because it is Dad's favorite. No matter whose birthday it is we buy a cake because Dad has a real sweet-tooth for those sugary icings. We, usually, almost always make a dessert too for the birthday girl or boy too. So in our family when it is your birthday not only do you receive presents, but you get to enjoy delicious homemade food and you don't have to lift a finger to make the meal or clean up. YAY!
You might be wondering why today of all days am I talking about birthday traditions? It's because my birthday is this week! I'm an Independence baby born on the 4th of July. While I'm not big on birthdays I do enjoy our birthday dinners and the fact that I won't have to help clean up this time! Since I am a July 4th baby, I tell everyone that the whole US celebrates my birthday, because why else do we have all those fireworks on the 4th of July?
How do you feel about birthdays and when is yours? Do you have any birthday traditions that you love?

  4. happy early birthday! what a fun holiday to have for your birthday and it is nice to get that day off of work! i actually share a birthday week with both of my parents, so i guess one of our "traditions" is to have one celebration for the three of us. it is nice to be able to celebrate all of us at one time.

  9. You are so awesome to be born on the 4th! Every year is a HUGE celebration for you. My family pretty much does the same thing yours does. We always buy a cake and either cook dinner or go out for dinner. Mine is February 20th, so yeah ummm I missed Valentine's Day! HAHAHAHA

  10. my friend is also born on 4th of july, and i always tell him that the whole world is setting off fireworks for him, too! we always have cake...usually a baskin robbins ice cream cake, or a homemade one if i have time. with kids, we usually don't go out for dinners, but we may have family over. it's more about the kids; they like to celebrate my birthday with little cards and things.

  11. Everyone has cool birthday traditions except me, I swear! There have been years where my entire family's forgotten my birthday - my fourteenth is particularly memorable as one of those, because my classmates found out and bought me a bunch of books for it, which was awesome. I really like birthdays now that I'm older and there's less pressure to have parties and therefore there's no real reason to get upset if my family forgets it (well, okay, other than wondering how anyone can forget the fact they gave birth to someone, but that's less upset and more confusion...) Plus, birthdays with friends are really fun! I'm a November 19th baby, so I also get to enjoy the super fun stereotypes and such that come with being a Scorpio.

    (Also happy early birthday!)

  12. I am such a big believer that birthdays should be celebrated in big fabulous ways! Our tradition is my mother's strawberry cake which has the best sugary icing. Oh and I am a firm believer that birthdays should be spent at the spa ;)
