Chit Chat

Vacation season is in full swing and I although I took my Summer vacation nearly two months ago getaways are still on my mind (it is so hard getting the salty air and sandy beaches off my mind). I would love to hear about your vacation plans for this year.

I have a confession to make. I have little pangs of jealousy when I read some of my favorite blogs and see all of the amazing adventures my fellow bloggers partake in. I have always had a huge case of wanderlust that has never been even close to satisfied. Growing up my family only took a handful of vacations. I cannot imagine that traveling with four young children was easy for my parents and the blur of memories I have for these vacations consist mostly of sibling arguments, being cooped and uncomfortable on long car rides, and disorganized chaos (unlike me my parents never seemed to be big planners when it came to these types of activities).

When I was in college my siblings and I decided we were going to take a trip together. I am certain our parents didn't think we would follow through but that year we packed up and headed to New York for a week. Since then we have taken numerous sibling vacations together. Whether we are exploring some place new or returning to an established favorite this tradition has easily created some of my most cherished memories.

I look forward to planning each upcoming trip, debating over a long list of places before finally choosing a destination, and then setting out to have some bonding time with my sisters and brother while trying new things. Perhaps what I find most impressive about these trips is that despite the four of us being so different and being so opinionated once we start our vacation we easily accept that each of us get to give input on the vacation. (Sure last vacation during one rainy afternoon I was out voted when we decided to see a movie and ended up watching Iron Man instead of The Great Gatsby, but I was okay with that). That is not to say that we do not sometimes still have a few arguments during the vacation (although last vacation to Florida I am proud to say not a single one) but it is always forgotten five minutes after it is over and we move on.

I still want to do so much traveling. I have never been out of the country and the list of places I want to visit is always growing. I hope that in the next few years I manage to arrange my life in a way that allows for some more amazing trips but until then I have to live little vicariously through some of you.

Please share the most amazing place you have ever visited. How many countries have you been to? Do you have any vacation traditions? Did your family travel a lot when you were little? What are your vacation plans for this year? And what place do you want to visit most?

  2. Hands down the most amazing place I've ever been was Scotland - it was just the perfect trip and I'm planning to return within the next few years. This year I'm heading to NYC for a week in the fall - I'm really excited to see all my east coast friends!

  3. I've got the travel bug as well! We took our Summer vacation in May, so I'm already wanting to take another too! I've been lucky enough to visit Italy, Spain, Switzerland and a few places in the Caribbean. I guess my favorite would be Spain! I'd love to visit Greece next. :)

  4. i'm still trying to decide on going on a vacation this year. when i was in college and after, i traveled a good bit but have severely slacked since then. i'd love to get back into it but it's a little hard with my work schedule now (as we've discussed :)) we're thinking of doing a long weekend to an all-inclusive in mexico this year. the prices are pretty good and it'll be nice and relaxing. hope you get to travel more soon too! :)

  6. I know exactly how you feel - it's so hard to see everyone else taking these amazing trips while you are stuck at home for whatever reason, wishing it could be you.
Hope we get to go somewhere fun this summer!

  7. Traveling is the best! And that's awesome that you & your siblings take trips together :) Growing up my family never really went on too many vacations either...so it definitely makes the wanderlust worse now because there are so many places to see!

  10. Traveling is one of the best things you can do for yourself, in my opinion. You learn so much! I've visited a lot of amazing places (Florence, Paris, Venice, etc.), but I have to say, a service trip I went on to Mexico was definitely the most life-changing. I'll never forget it!

  11. I have a big case of wanderlust too! I'm feel lucky that I've traveled to Europe before, but at the same time I haven't been outside the country in three years and I'm really have the itch to go somewhere, anywhere soon.

Right now I'm tentatively planning to go to Mexico in November for a wedding and I really hope that my plans come together. My favorite country that I've ever been to is Spain- I love that country and I'd definitely live there. I haven't really been on vacation with my family since before college and when we did go occasionally it was never anyplace very exciting. I would really like to return to Europe one day soon and travel all over- that would be amazing!

  14. I hear you! Even having grown up going on a lot of vacations and trips...and even taking a lot of trips in adulthood, there's never enough time. Never enough money! To do all the traveling I want to do.

  15. I'd love to travel a lot more than I do. Before I left college, I was lucky to go to London twice since my dad was doing business over there. Sadly he no longer does business in England for me to hop along with. I am excited though since my parents surprised me with buying me the plane tickets to our family vacation happening in Florida at the end of this month. I am so excited to lie on the beach and just relax for a week.

  16. I like to travel and see new things, but I love to be in one place. LOL I know sounds weird! But my whole life I've moved from country to country then from state to state never really staying in once place for to long. I've always envied the people that had the same home for years and having the one good friend since childhood. But I admit the different cultures made me a well balanced person (well in my opinion lol)
Anyways I hope you visit lots of places and share with us your adventures.
