9 Best Board Games for Game Night

9 Best Board Games for Game Night
I am a huge fan of board games. As a kid our family would have game night occasionally and we would have fun competing against one another. Even now, Tracy and I enjoy hosting game night for our family or for friends. We love planning and preparing snacks and picking board games to play. In the last few years

1. One Night Ultimate Werewolf - This game is quick and great for crowds. If you buy the expansion, even more people can play! Plus it has an app you can download that makes it even easier to play.
2. The Resistance - Similar to the above game in that it is great for a crowd of people best for 6+ people.
3. Agents of Smersh - A great collaborative game for a group of friends to work towards a common goal. Plus, I love the secret agent/spy aspect of the game.
4. Mystery at the Abbey - Great for up to 6 people. This game has you constantly discovering clues and interacting with other players to determine who murdered Brother Adelmo.
5. Ticket to Ride - Depending on which Ticket to Ride game you have the amount of players varies. All of these games are super fun and easy to understand!
6. Smash Up - The amount of players will vary depending on many of the expansions you buy. The game play always changes depending on which two decks you decide to smash together to play with and what the other players choose. For example you might play with Killer Plants and with Time Travelers or you could be playing with Mythic Ponies and Steam Punks. Different decks have different effects. The first player to 15 points wins!
7. Pandemic - This is another collaborative game where you are scientists/doctors working to defeat a pandemic.
8. Shadows Over Camelot - This is a collaborative game were all players are working with King Arthur as knights of the round table to defeat evil, except one of you may be a traitor!
9. Mice and Mystics - If you want to have a regular game night then this game is perfect! It allows for 2-5 players. This game will take multiple plays to finish. It comes with a book that tells you the story for the characters and is played in chapters. With a dozen chapters until you finish. A chapter can take from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. This is collaborative game play though.

What to Wear: Board Game Night
So we are still stuck around the house from all the bad weather. We have had a lot of game nights and movie nights in the last 10 days. They have been a lot of fun, so I thought I would put together a look to wear to game night. Granted if it's just the family at game night or movie night, I dress a little more casual in sweatpants or pjs depending on how late we start. If I were going over to a friends house or having friends over though I would dress a little nicer but still casual. So for me a game night look would definitely embody comfy jeans and a tee. The colorful jacket just screams fun to me just like a game night should be. And of course you need a tote bag so that you can carry a few of your favorite games with you when you go out for game night. What would you wear to game night?

What To Wear: To Game Night

what to wear hosting a game night
What to Wear: To Game Night
Color Block Sweater / Ticket To Ride (one of my favorite games!) / 7 Wonders / Julep Nail Polish - Marjorie / Earrings (great for everyday wear) / Boyfriend Jeans (amazing fit) / Ring Set / Loafers / Tote

Lately I have loved hosting game nights. Jessica and I have a cousin who collects board games and in the last few months we have learned about dozens of board games we never knew existed. Game nights are great for spending quality time with friends and I honestly rather spend time with my friends in one of our homes over a loud restaurant. We order pizza, set out a few snacks, and then spend a few hours laughing, talking, and eating while playing games.

During these evenings I always opt for something casual like great fitting boyfriend jeans and a comfy sweater. If a game night was being hosted at a friends house I would add a large tote to carry a few games in.

Playmates: Game Night

Playmates: Game Night
Who doesn't love a good game night with the family or with friends? Some good snacks and friendly competition can make for a fantastic evening. Not to mention how hilarious it can become when you make a blunder in the game. I love board games. I think they are a great way to bring a group of people together and have fun. Even if not all the guest know each other that well after an evening of playing board games everyone knows each other a lot better.
In college, the girls in my dorm room and I would host a weekly board game night. We had a group of regular people who almost always came and a few new people almost every night. We would order pizza and have a blast. Sometimes we provided the games and sometimes they brought their favorites. Even now, I love having my friends over to play board games sometimes. Or getting the family to agree to a game night is always hilarious.
I have to say that I love scrabble, but no one in my family will play with me! They are horrible spellers. But I also love games like Taboo and Cranium were you can work together with a team. Below are some of my favorite games. What's your favorite board game?

Quelf

You've probably never heard of Quelf. I hadn't either until a few weeks ago when several of my friends and I got together at one of their houses. One of them had brought the game Quelf along for us to try out. She had purchased the game some time ago online (the link is at the bottom of the page incase you are interested in learning more about the game), but we hadn't played a board game in a while so we hadn't tried it yet.
Quelf isn't really like any board game that I have played before. It doesn't have your typical game pieces either. In the picture that I took when we played you can see that we used the fat lady, the platypus, and the ninja monkey (which was my game piece by the way). The object of the game is to roll the dice and make your way to the end of the spiral, winding path.
Along the way (almost after each roll of the dice) you have to draw some type of card. The game has three different types. One type is a kind of factoid where you have to answer questions about really out there things that no one knows about. When you answer incorrectly you have to pay the consequence by moving back so many spaces (so those are the easiest ones to mess up on). Then there are the action cards where you are going to have to do something weird either for a short period of time or until you draw another action card. For example one of my friends had to wrap her hand in alumni foil until her next card or you may have to have several cubes of ice down the back of your shirt until your next turn (which is something I had to do). The action cards also range from have to wrap toilet paper around yourself like a mummy to having to speak like Dracula, to having to having to mutter under your breath like Darth Vader about the dark side. The action card could just be for you or for everyone. The everyone cards give you a choice between two topics like guy flicks vs. chic flicks. After you pick the topic everyone has to take turns saying a something that goes along with your topic until only one person is left and they get the bonus. Then the last type of card is kind of like a mystery card only you know what it says. It will give you instructions for something you have to do at some point int he game to receive a bonus of some sorts. Since no one else knows what it tells you to do you could make up something weird but less embarrassing and claim that you have now completed that card.
It may sound a little confusing but it was definitely a very entertaining time. We had people having to hit their knee and say this gibberish sentence everytime one laughed, to having to run in slow motion around the room, to having to put the nearest tie around your head like a ninja, and so on. Oh and if you don't happen to have the objects at hand that the cards call for like a tie you have to either improvise or take the consequences.
