Chit Chat: My Future Home

My Future Home
I have talked about my dream home on here numerous times before and hopefully that is about to become a reality. I have been thinking about when I could actually make my own home come true for the past year. I have been saving money and thinking about what I actually need and want in my own home. I have had to reign it in a little to be a little more realistic, but I believe that within the next year I will have my own house.

At first I looked around the surrounding area for homes that were for sale within my price range. The thing is that there really aren't that many places for sale around here that wouldn't put me further from work than I am now. My one absolute must is that I don't make my commute to work any longer than it is now at 25 minutes. A few of the homes that I know about aren't in the best neighborhoods so those were immediately nixed off the list. Another strike against a lot of the homes for sale was that they were quite old. They looked like they were in good shape but at their ages they could have problems that I couldn't immediately see.

My dad was the first person to suggest that I just build a new home. Then I could choose where I wanted it to be exactly. The good thing about building too is that I can make the home exactly what I want. My dad has already volunteered to do some building for me. He is excellent with carpentry. He built the kitchen cabinets that are in my parent's home and some wooden porch furniture and rocking chairs for them. He will do superb work on the cabinets for me and then I can always say my dad built that for me. He also says he will build some bookcases for me as well. So now, I am off thinking about all of the possibilities and what is really realistic for me. I am thinking about how many rooms are a must and what sizes are adequate for those rooms. What size of house is just right for me? What do I want it to look like?

Right now I am figuring out where my home will be. My next step is to acquire the necessary land. Then actually plan what I want. We are already so close to Winter now that I figure I will have to wait until it is over before building actually begins. I am so excited. Do you have any experience in building or planning your home? What advice do you have for me?

Dream Furnishings

dream furnishings
dream furnishings
Springtime Painting (love the colors!) / Ginger Jar Print (only $48) / Side Table / Agate Bookends / Gold Clock / Floral Jar (love this!) / Lamp / Basket (great for storage) / Sofa (so pretty!)

A few dream furnishings because every girl occasionally plans for her dream home even if ownership of that home is in the distant future and many of the items on her wish list are way out of her budget.

Plus, it is back to reality and back to work today so a little daydreaming may help me get through the day. Are you also headed back to work today after an extended break for the holidays?

Live in the Pastel Home

beautiful Victorian Home

home decor

beautiful home

neon and pastel home office

beautiful mix of colors

Live in the Pastel Home These rooms with their pastel colors look like such great places to relax. I could see myself coming home after a stressful day at work and walking into one of these room and instantly feeling more relaxed. Pastels are such feminine, soft colors that look great with a wide variety of colors. I would pair the pastel colors with neutrals to keep the calming atmosphere. The home office above also adds in some touches of neon which would be perfect for that room. I love everything about the home and the rooms above. The pastels offer a touch of romanticism to the places. I wish I could just jump into these room right now. What do you think about pastel rooms like these?

Chit-Chat

My sister Tiffany is getting married at the end of this month. This past week she finally closed on a house. After she cleaned it earlier this week, she has spent all weekend moving in. I spent part of the weekend helping her cart things to her new house. I think that it is going to be a fantastic home for her and that after a little time she will have it looking so beautiful.
While there, Tiffany gave us the tour and told us what she has planned for each room. This got me to thinking about my dream home and what I would want it to include. I know I have mentioned before how I would want my dream home to include a library. A room with built-in bookshelves that are filled with my favorite reads and books that I want to read. It absolutely has to contain several comfy places to sit and read. I would want a large kitchen with two ovens, so that I would have plenty of room to cook and bake all of the delicious looking recipes that I pinned on pinterest. My home would also need plenty of storage space, so that I could organize everything and not have my rooms looking cluttered. The kitchen needs storage space for lots of ingredients so that I don't have to go to the grocery store every time I have a new recipe to make. What are your must-haves for your dream home?

Neutral with a Pop of Color

When it comes to neutrals, I just love the crisp clean vibe they give out. Neutrals are a way to remain classy and sophisticated. Plus neutrals are so easy to work with. That is why I would love to have lots of neutrals in my future dream home. My dream home needs a few neutral rooms (I haven't decide which ones, but it could work in any room!) that I can escape into to.
I wouldn't just keep everything neutral though. I would add in some playfulness and fun with a few pops of color. There are so many different ways to do this. For example in the living room you could add pops of color with a vase of fresh flowers and throw pillows. Then it would be so easy to change up the color you are using by changing the vase and pillows. I also love keeping everything neutral and adding in the pop of color by painting the ceiling a bright pretty color like in the photo above.
For rooms like this I have several favorite color combinations. First I love shades of gray paired with purple, green, or turquoise. I also love creams and tans paired with blues, pinks, and oranges. Then white I would pair with just about any color. What would your color combination be?

Any Old Thing

I love the sentimental quality that furniture passed down through generation to generation can possess. If no one in your family has passed down any antiques or vintage furniture or decor to you then you can easily solve this problem by hunting down your own vintage or antique pieces that you can begin passing down to future generations. In my future home I would love to have a few old beautiful pieces of furniture be it an old iron bed or chest or desk. I would integrate these pieces into my modern home.
One day when I have my own home I would love to have the time and money to hunt at flea markets and antique stores for some unique and beautiful antique and vintage pieces that fit my style. What are your thoughts?

Under the Sun

In my future home I would love to have a sun room. Sun rooms are just rooms with walls made mostly of glass. What better way to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while enjoying the comfort of the indoors? You can relax and read a good book while having an excellent view of nature. Or you can just delight in the warmth of the sun while you are inside away from the bugs. Sun rooms can be used for multiple purposes though and it is hard for me to decide just what I want mine to be. Do I want it to be a space to have friends over for brunch or dinner or is it more of a space just for relaxing or maybe it is a hobby/craft area. What purpose would your sun room have?
