Pumpkin Bread

There are few better ways to usher in the arrival of Fall than with pumpkin. This pumpkin bread just might be the easiest recipe you could ever make and imagine the wonderful smell of pumpkin and spices coming from your kitchen while this is baking in the oven. I also love that this recipe can easily be modified. You could use spice cake mix instead of yellow or you can add extra touches such as nuts, cranberries, or raisins.

Ingredients:

1 (18.25 ounce) yellow cake mix
1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin
3/4 tablespoon cinnamon
1/4 tablespoon cloves
1/4 tablespoon nutmeg
1/4 tablespoon allspice

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a loaf pan with nonstick spray.
2. In a large bowl mix ingredients until well blended. Spread evenly in the loaf pan.

3. Bake 45 minutes or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool on a wire rack.

Odds and Ends

I have spoken numerous times to you on my great love for books and how I would love to have a library in my future home. I have always loved to read and so do my sisters and brother. Maybe it's because we our parents always read to us when we were children. Every night before bedtime or really any time that we asked they would read to us. Most nights several stories before we could be convinced that we were actually tired and ready for bed. I still smile when I look back on those nights or cold winter days when Mom would be in bed and we would curl up around her and listen. Even later when us girls where older and reading a lot to ourselves we would still listen in when our little brother got story time. Well back to the library now. I know I have mentioned how I would fill it up with books that I love and how I would love to have bookcases built into the walls. And of course no library would be complete without bookends. I love all of the photos above and down below are some I would want to buy for my library.

Pencil It In

Due to their sophisticated and polished look pencil skirts are a wardrobe staple for many women. I couldn't be more thrilled that this season pencil skirts are going glamorous. In fact, earlier this week I mentioned on Priscilla Peters Decor that glam pencil skirts are one of my favorite trends this Fall. With great options like sequins, jewel toned pleats, lace, leather, and embellishments it is going to be difficult to watch my spending this season.

Converses

Converses are a very versatile shoe. They come in so many colors and styles that you can almost wear them with anything. The look great with jeans and a tee. They also look wonderful with skirts and casual dresses. With all of the choices, it is just too hard to decide. Do I want a green pair, as green is my favorite color? Or do I want a more neutral color that would match more items? Cloth or no? Glittery or not? So many choices. What do you think?
Here are some of my favorites:

Butter Pecan Cake

Butter Pecan is one of my favorite flavors when it comes to ice cream so I thought why not give the flavor a try in cake form. This cake didn't disappoint. Plus, toasting the pecans in the butter smelled totally delicious.

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cup butter, softened, divided
2 cups chopped pecans
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk

FROSTING:
2 pkgs (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 pkg (2 lbs) confectioners’ sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 to 3 Tb milk, as necessary
extra chopped pecans for garnish, optional

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour three 9″ round cake pans.
2. In a medium heavy skillet, melt 1/4 cup butter over medium heat. Add pecans; cook until toasted and fragrant, about 4 minutes. Spread across sheet of foil to cool.

3. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk to combine; set aside.
4. In a separate large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 3-4 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.
5. Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the flour (flour in 3 parts, milk in 2). Fold in toasted pecans.
6. Divide between cake pans and bake 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack before removing from pans. Cool completely.

7. FOR FROSTING: In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla. Beat in enough milk, as necessary, to achieve spreading consistency. Frost cake. Store in refrigerator.

Bright and Early

These brightly colored homes are so beautiful and unique. Being so creatively painted they are not only unusual, but also an eye catcher. Around here there are not very many homes painted in such bold colors and those that are aren't nearly as beautiful. I would love a home painted in bright bold shades, but I don't know if I would ever be able to pick out just what colors I wanted to go with. If your home was such a color, what would you choose?

Bust Your Bubble

Bubble necklaces like the ones available at J. Crew have been around awhile and I am as equally smitten with them as I was the first day I noticed them. I currently own two and I am close picking up a third. Bubble necklaces have became my go to accessory to wear with a tee and blazer on casual days. Below are a few bubble necklaces and similar pieces that are among my favorites.
