7 Easy Steps To Become A Morning Person
I have always been at my most productive in the morning so it is important that I start my day off right and get out the door without any problems. I cannot remember a time when I did not have to wake up early almost every single morning. I am sure it was likely in middle school. Below are the easy to follow steps that have ensured that my mornings go smoothly and that I get my day started on the right foot not to mention on time.

STEP ONE // Do prep work the night before. There is always dozens of things to do before heading out the door in the morning. Save yourself some time and stress by taking care of the tasks that can be done early the night before. The night before I like to make sure the kitchen is clean so I have a space ready for me to make breakfast, to choose my clothes for the next day so I am not trying on 6 or 7 different looks in a panic in the morning, and pack my lunch and snacks so I have healthy food options for the next day.

STEP TWO // Establish a morning routine and then just do it. Establishing a patterning and waking up with a game plan will you sail more smoothly through your morning. My typical morning consists of in order: waking up, feeding my cat, making my bed, enjoying “me time”, washing my face, showering, having breakfast, checking the weather, brushing my teeth/styling my hair/makeup, getting dressed, and then heading out the door.

STEP THREE // Place your alarm clock on the other side of the room. Having your clock next to the bed facilitates hitting the snooze button. On the other hand once you are out of the bed it is easier to stay there. Sit your alarm clock across the room means you have to get up to turn it off.

STEP FOUR // Eat breakfast. You have heard it since you were a kid breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is hard to be productive when you are hungry. Plus studies have shown that people who eat breakfast tend to weigh less, remember better, and are less likely to develop diseases like diabetes and heart disease. A typical breakfast for me is a glass of water with half of a lemon squeezed into it, scrambled eggs, a slice of 100% whole wheat toast, and a banana. It can be prepared in a matter of minutes and helps me power through the day.

STEP FIVE // Go to bed earlier at least 30 minutes earlier than your current routine. Perhaps because I already wake up at 5:00 and sleep is important to me I am not a proponent of waking up earlier. I do recommend getting in bed earlier. Until recently I was staying awake until 11:30 each night. Now I try my best to make sure I am asleep by 10:30 and I have noticed the hugest difference. I wake up feeling better rested and with a lot more energy. When you are not tired getting ready in the morning seems doesn’t seem like such a chore and I am able to get a lot more accomplished in less time.

STEP SIX // Make your bed as soon as your alarm goes off. It starts your day on the right foot and ensures that you will not be crawling back under the blankets. I am also one of those people who cannot stand an unmade bed. It is just a tidy positive little note that says I am already accomplishing things today.

STEP SEVEN // Include a few minutes of me time in your morning routine. I have always been someone who appreciates and enjoys quiet time. Each morning for as long as I can remember after making my bed but before showering I have paused for 5-10 minutes and just gathered my thoughts for the day. It helps me center myself and mentally prepare for the day. A few other suggestions for how you could use your “me time” is to pray, mediate, write in a journal, or count your blessings.

  1. Great tips! I've never been a morning person but envy those that are. :-) I'm more of a night owl.

  2. These are marvellous tips. I love making sure all is ready the night before, it makes mornings so much easier - especially with my two girls, because the times I don't do this, I end up running around the house crazy trying to find stuff & then I'm stressed and tired. Super tips. Have a lovely day dolls xx

  3. I am totally opposite of you--a night owl! But my jobs requires me to be a morning person and I am trying my darndest to make things easier on myself! I really like the idea of making my bed as soon as I get up and having some "me" time! Great list--very helpful :)

  5. This is an excellent article! I love productivity types of posts! I have totally had to put my alarm clock on the other side of my room (especially when I had 3 a.m. wake ups for the military). Going to bed earlier is probably the toughest thing for people to do. I took in on as my lent thing and it's been great! I go through periods where I'm good at going to bed early but then it's easy to fall into that midnight routine!

  9. Definitely a fan of this post. I HATE mornings, but my favorite thing you said here is about the quiet time in the morning. It's so helpful. I try to meditate and stretch for about 15 mins and the morning, and the days that I don't do it, I definitely feel rushed and off center all day. PS your blog is adorable! New look, right?

  10. I was such a morning person, and then my shifts switched. I am hoping they will go back to regular because I miss having the whole day, vs. Sleeping till 2 pm and only going to work.

  17. The alarm clock does need to be further away for me! I use my phone and usually stash it under my pillow or on the night stand. Hitting snooze gets way too easy.
