It is hard to believe it is already Monday. Weekends always seem to fly by. This week is going to be a busy one. I have a lot of appointments and meetings schedules out of the office and I am heading to a training on Wednesday.

One item that I will be getting a lot of use out of this week is a black blazer. I consider black blazers to be one of workhorses in my closet. It is versatile, classic, and because it is black it goes with basically everything I own. A high-end black blazer is one of the components of the perfect suit which I said last week is one of the 5 Investment Pieces every woman should have work. Over the years I have also picked up several inexpensive black blazers that I toss over everything including trousers, dresses, jeans, and skirts.

I have learned the hard way to I always keep a black blazer in my office. This lesson was learned one hectic day when I was scheduled to looking at dusty books out of the office all day doing research but was called and given almost no notice of an important meeting I had to attend in the office that day. I have almost a 90 minute commute to work each day so I had no time to go home and get dressed. Instead I ran like a mad woman around town to purchase something to wear to this meeting. Since that day along with a few other items a black blazer is something I always keep stashed away in my closet at work for an emergency or when something unexpected pops up.

While I believe that every one should have a classic black or navy blazer, I also believe that we should all own at least one colored blazer. A brilliant green, blue, or pink would be perfect. To me colored blazers just scream summer time! Normally we would choose our outfit first and then our jacket or cardigan, but when it comes to a colored blazer it is just easier to pick it first and then form your outfit around it. And there is no need to worry that you won't be able to wear a colored blazer very often. You can wear one with a pair of jeans and tee or with a cute dress. I would love to own a dozen blazers in beautiful colors. What color would you pick?

Elbow Room

This time of year I am usually obsessed with sparkly dresses, but instead my brain is occupied with elbow patches. Whether on sweaters or blazers the patches will make any outfit a bit more modern and fun. Maybe it's the equestrian touch or the tribute to the geeky professor tbut there is no denying that elbow patches are a classic detail.

Blazin' Blazers

Blazers are classic staple. Blazers are not just for suits. They instantly take any outfit from casual to impressive. While I have complied a large collection of basic black and navy blazers recently I have began looking for blazers with playful twists such a cute patterns or in fun colors. I think maybe a plum or mustard color blazer would be perfect for crisp Fall weather.

In Short Supply

I have to admit that I'm not a fan of wearing a traditional suit, which unfortunately my job occasionally requires. I find most suits to be boxy and very unflattering on me. For slightly more casual work environment where well tailored shorts are acceptable, I love the idea of using those shorts paired with a sophisticated blazer to create professional outfits that are less uniform and demonstrate more personality.
I love how this peach blazer compliments the tan shorts without being too matchy-matchy. Paired with a cute floral blouse and mostly neutral accessories makes this look very professional looking.
