What To Wear: Fall Uniform

Field Jacket (love this $64 version too) / Striped Tee / Constellation Necklace / Beanie / Double Pearl Earrings / Fox iPhone Case / NARS Lipstick - Scarlet / Satchel / Jeans / Thin Ring Set / The Happiness Planner / Ankle Booties / Thermal Mug

I am one tired girl. I started off this week yesterday thinking that it was going to be a quieter week but it seems that I was wrong. I have been working nonstop for the last few weeks and I could really use a little downtime.

I have several days scheduled off in November and I cannot wait spend some lazy days enjoying fall before it zips past me and is gone. Above is a typical fall uniform for me. Flat ankle boots and a field jacket are fall essentials that I think every girl should own. I shared this iPhone case yesterday but I love how adorable the little fox is.

On another note have you started your Christmas shopping yet? So many people that I know have already began picking up gifts but I haven't had time to even start thinking about it. I suspect that I will wind up doing most of my shopping online the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I have loved capes for the last few years but I still have not purchased one. They seem like a fun alternative to a fall jacket. I am currently on the hunt for the perfect cape for when temperatures are a little cooler. Above are a few of the options. This one is my favorite. I love the color and the classic shape. Do you own a cape?

Perfect for Fall Fashion
Fall weather is definitely starting to hit here. We are having cool morning and evenings. The weather has been mainly rainy as well. So I have been taking a close look at my wardrobe to determine if I need anything before the cold weather does hit. I could use a few sweaters because almost all of the tops I own are short sleeves or elbow sleeves. I also have my eye out for some ankle boots this Fall, but I haven't found the pair for me yet. Since I have been pondering my Fall wardrobe, I thought I should share the pieces with you that I think are perfect for fall.

To me Fall is about the layers. You never know what the temperature will be here. It can start out cool, then get hot, and then be back to cool by nightfall. So layers are your best friend. You can take off and add on as the temperature fluctuates. So jackets, cardigans, and sweaters are a necessity. These are easy pieces for layering. I think you need some color, prints, and neutrals in these. That is why I love sweater, it is such a great print. I'm also all about items that will serve me well for work, like I think all of these items will. What do you have on your must have for Fall list?

20 Great Dresses For Fall

20 Great Dresses For Fall
I have been wearing dresses a lot more than usual lately. I have found that getting dressed up helps the day feel a little better. I have already purchased several new dresses to add to my closet. I have rounded up 20 other of my favorite dresses from around the web above. Have you made any new purchases lately?

Moto Jacket (a fall essential) / Plaid Shift Dress / Sunglasses / Ear Crawlers (perfectly dainty) / Ciaté London Nail Polish / Allie Ring / Cuff Set / iPhone Case (adorable!) / Satchel / Booties / Necklace

Happy fall everyone! I am so happy to be entering my favorite time of the year. I have been busy make a to-do list of things I want to do this fall and it has me excitedly looking forward to the upcoming months. Jessica and I have also stated planning for our Halloween party and hope to get invitations out this week. Am I the only one that loves Halloween more as a grown up than I ever did as a child?

Meanwhile, I feel like the weather is being cruel to me. It gave me several glorious fall like days several weeks ago where it encouraged me to pull out the jackets from the back of my closet, allowed me to have lunch outside so I could enjoy the crispness in the air, and urged me to end the day snuggled up with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. Now here we are on the first day of fall and it feels almost like we are in the middle of summer outside. Come on, Mother Nature, work with me. In the last few weeks I have purchased so many great pieces for fall and I want to be able to wear them without sweltering.

I was evaluating my closet the other day and realized that I do not currently own a single plaid item. I have convinced myself that a plaid dress like this one is a necessity. I have been flipping out over these Satchel / booties since I spotted them earlier this week. The cutouts on them are perfect.

Have you been doing a lot shopping for fall? What great items have you purchased?

Getting back to work after a long holiday weekend is never easy. After reviewing my calendar for the rest of the year this morning I was surprised to realize that it is quickly becoming completely booked up. No matter how many plans and appointments I have to fit into my schedule in the upcoming months I am determined to make time to enjoy the rest of the year especially since we are heading into my favorite time of the year.

Over the weekend I noticed that there are a few leaves that are already beginning to change color and I am looking forward to a drop in temperatures at the end of the week. I recently baked carrot cake and oatmeal bars and soon I plan to whip up a batch of my famous pumpkin whoopie pies. Plus, Jessica and I have been making plans for Halloween costumes and our Halloween party. To say that I am ready for fall would be an understatement.

I have also been doing some shopping in anticipation of cooler weather. I have said it on here before but it still holds true: fall fashion is my favorite. I will take cable knit sweaters over shorts and boots over sandals any day. I just purchased a midi skirt similar to this one that I cannot wait to arrive so I can start wearing it (the pleats are so feminine). Last year I realized how much I love ankle boots like these and they quickly became my most worn shoes in the fall and winter. Currently, however, I am obsessed with these smoking slippers and want to own them in every color.

Have you made any purchases for fall?

I have been obsessed with blanket scarves for the last couple years. I finally received one as a Christmas gift (this one to be more exact). Now I am at a bit of a loss on how to wear it. I was a little shocked holding it up how massive they really are (although the term "blanket" should have really implied what their size would be like). I have done a little searching on Pinterest and have found the photos above to use as styling inspiration. I really love the belted look. It makes the scarf a great alternative to a cape, don't you think?

A round up of a few fall updates to make your home cozy for fall. For fall I love to bring in natural elements like this boxwood wreath, gold accents like this library scone, a touch of tartan, and tan leather like this chair. I also think it is nice to keep several warm throws within reach for chilly evenings. A light like this beautiful star glass pendant has been on my wish list for a couple years now.

Fall Fashion: Animal Accents

Fall Fashion: Animal Accents One Fall fashion trend that I am on board with is adding animal accents to your look. It could be an owl ring, a sheep sweater, or some zebra print that you use to add some animal accents to your outfit. In the look above I specifically chose the fox sweater because I love the colors and the fox is so adorable. I think brown and black is just a perfect color combination for Fall. I chose the leopard print shoes just because I liked them and afterwards I realized that they fit the theme of my look by incorporating more animal accented items. A total accident but it works! Items like this sweater definitely aren't serious. They infuse a little playfulness and childish fun into your wardrobe. What do you think?

What I Wish I Was Wearing

What I Wish I Was Wearing
I am likely the only person in Kentucky who is borderline devastated by the weather forecasts calling for temperatures near or above 70 for the next several days. I mean, come on. It is fall. I want a crisp bite in the air that screams for layers and declares scarves a necessity. I love that the look above is very simple but also so chic. Dark wash jeans are a closet staple for me and now I am kind of convinced that I need a tailored burgundy blazer. A plaid blanket scarf has been on my wish list for the last couple months. Have you seen this scarf? I love it but am having a hard time deciding what color to purchase.

One of the things I love most about this time of the year is abundance of sweaters and opportunities to wear them. I admit that I am more than a little addicted to snuggling up into sweaters on chilly days. I have more sweaters in my closet than any other piece of clothing and each year happily add to my collection. Today's stylish for less is a round up of some beautiful sweaters under $50. I have painted nails way more often in the fall and winter than I do any other time of the year. I am so much more likely to take the time to paint my nails while cozying up inside and catching up on a favorite tv show or chatting with friends than I am during the super busy warmer months when I seem to always be on the go.

I have been paying close attention to fall nail polish trends so I can stock up on some new colors. I love the on trend hues this fall including inky blues (like this, bold plums (like this), and creamy nudes (like this). I have include some more in my guide above.

What are your favorite nail polish colors for this fall?

Chit Chat: Fall Break

Chit Chat: Fall Break I have just had a relaxing four day weekend from work. We had a short Fall break from school on Thursday and Friday. I mainly spent my time off at home relaxing and doing things that I enjoy. It was a stress-free time with little thoughts of work, grading papers, or preparing assignments. I took the time off to recharge my batteries so that I can go back to work today and get things accomplished. Sometimes, I worry and stress over work related things so much that I keep working at them even when I need a break.

So, how did I enjoy my time off? Thursday, my brother and I went into town and did a little shopping. Then I took some time to surf the web and do a little retail therapy online. Friday I made bear claws, read some of Pride and Prejudice, and then my siblings and I had pizza and movie night. Saturday, we made pumpkin whoopie pies and had a delicious Italian dinner. We also made a few Halloween crafts, those will be coming to the blog soon. Sunday we spent more time decorating for Halloween and completing a few tasks for the upcoming week.

Now, I feel rested and recharged. I am ready to go back to work and to accomplish the tasks on my to do list. I am ready to eat lunch with my "lunch bunch" and catch up with them to see what they did over break. What would you do with a few days off from work?

Fall Favorite: Plaid Pants
If there is a must have print for fall it has to be plaid. Plaid reappears every fall like florals do every spring. My last obsession with plaid existed in the form of scarves but lately I have been loving plaid pants. Plaid is a versatile print and can easily be dressed up or down. I think a chic pair of plaid trousers would be a great addition to a work wardrobe. A few fun plaid pants can be found below:

Chit Chat: Fall To Do List

Chit Chat: Fall To Do List
This weekend I was great. I almost totally unplugged until I sat down Sunday evening to make a few fall purchases. My weekend started Friday evening with visiting my grandmother who had a fabulous dinner waiting for me. On Saturday I continued visiting family, enjoying the amazing autumn weather, and Saturday evening I dived into Pride and Prejudice. I love this book and read way into the night. Most of Sunday was spent in my kitchen cooking, baking, and testing recipes. The things we whipped up included easy butterscotch fudge, potato cakes, and chocolate whoopie pies.

This low key, chilly, comfort food filled weekend has me seriously excited for the rest of fall. This has always been my favorite time of the year. Plus knowing the holidays are just around the corner adds to the fun. Before fall turns into winter here are a few things that I plan to do:

1. Finishing planning and host our first Halloween party.

2. Make fall themed foods: pumpkin whoopie pies, caramel apples, apple pie, and carrot cake.

3. Attend a football game.

4. Complete our plans for our Thanksgiving trip to NYC.

5. Purchase ballet tickets for the Nutcracker.

6. Have a fall picnic.

7. Block off time to visit family and take along sweet treats when I go.

8. Finish all of my book club reads and host a successful book club meeting.

9. Stock up on sweaters, gold jewelry, and moody nail polishes.

10. Have friends and family over for a bonfire complete with s'mores and ghost stories.

What do you hope to do this fall?

Happy Weekend

happy weekend
Hooray for weekends. Work has just been so rough lately. A couple weeks ago we had the most glorious fall weather. Then much to my disappointment the temperature jumped back up. I am crossing my fingers that it cools back off soon.

This weekend me and Jessica are planning to visit our grandmother. I am also going to attempt baking an apple pie. I cannot wait for my kitchen to be filled with the smell of fresh apple pie in the oven. The rest of my weekend should also be low-key and will possibly include finishing Pride and Prejudice for book club. What are your weekend plans?

Have you ever been apple picking? I haven't but it seems like a quintessential fall activity. I have heard about several apple farms nearby who are having weekend fall festivals in the upcoming weeks. If my schedule permits I would love to fit an apple picking expedition into my fall to do list. All of the apples for fall baking would be a huge plus. Above is my ideal outfit for apple picking complete with flat brown leather boots and a cable knit sweater.

Faux fur stoles and snoods are so luxe and elegant even considering all of the items I included above are less than $60! This beauty is only $28. I fell in love with faux fur snoods last winter but never made the purchase. You can bet I will not be missing out this year. Winter here last year was horribly cold and I have been told that predictions are this year will be just as bad if not worse. I picture myself wearing a cozy, warm faux fur stole or snood and being comfortable despite frigid temperatures.

11 Easy Tips To Transition Summer Clothing Into Fall

transition summer clothing into fall
11 Easy Tips To Transition Summer Clothing Into Fall
Fall is my favorite time of the year and while I love everything that comes along with this time of the year (the pumpkins, the brisk mornings, the colorful leaves, the apple cider for example) I don’t like immediately packing away all of my summer clothes. Fortunately by adding in some fall staples I can extend the time I get to spend with my favorite summer dresses and tees by a couple months. Below are my 11 tips for transitioning summer clothing into fall.

ONE // Layer Up. Use knits, jackets, and blazers to wear over your favorite summer shirts and dresses, such as throwing a sweater over a sundress. Or take the opposite approach and layer a long sleeved top under a dress. My favorites for layering under are chambrays, white button ups, and solid color tees. An important tip for layering under is to make sure the top is thin so it doesn’t make your dress appear bulky.

TWO // Stock up on tights and leggings. Tights and leggings are an important fall staple to cover up bare legs. Wear them under shorts, dresses, and skirts.

THREE // Switch out your accessories. Change out your current statement necklaces for faux fur stoles, straw fedoras to knitted beanies, and brightly hued handbags for rich suede or beautifully jewel tone bags.

FOUR // Change your color palette. Some summer colors just don’t transition very well into fall so pack away everything that isn’t a jewel shade, a neutral, or a darker shade. Same rule applies to florals. While you can continue wear florals in fall they need to be darker.

FIVE // Don’t forget the importance of structure. Fashion in fall has a lot more structure than the loose, flowy pieces that dominate in summer so stick with structured bags, tailored pants, and structured dresses and skirts.

SIX // Add leather. Leather and summer often just do not mix but taking a simple step of adding a leather moto jacket over a graphic tee or a favorite summer dress instantly makes it fall ready.

SEVEN // Update your footwear. Switch out sandals for pumps and boots, especially ankle boots that go with everything.

EIGHT // Remember the versatility of denim. Denim jackets, chambrays, and jeans work in summer and fall.

NINE // Look for basics. When evaluating which summer pieces for items to keep out for fall look for basics and items that can be easily layered.

TEN // Stock up on scarves. Scarves are one of the ultimate layer pieces. Use light pashminas in early fall and switch to chunky knits when the temperatures drop.

ELEVEN // Be prepared. It is the worst to be away from home and end up freezing. Always keep a jacket or an extra layer on hand.

This post by Rebecca reminded me of how much I love a good ankle boot. They are the perfect shoe to pick up for fall in order to give your collection a little update. I couldn't agree more with Rebecca. Booties are versatile, can be worn every season, and go with everything from shorts to jeans. I think my favorite way to style ankle boots is with a skirt and tights in fall. I have rounded up some of my current favorites including these, these, and these.
