What To Wear: On A Snow Day

What To Wear: Snow Day
Cable Sweater (a favorite!) / Scarf / Coat / Pearl Necklace (classic) / Pave Stud Earrings / Emerald Ring / Pearl Ring (love this!) / Bow Beanie (adorable) / Gloves / Bucket Bag / Jeans

After having a snow storm that dropped more snow here than we have had since I was a little girl I have been enjoying snow days the last couple days. As a result I have been spending my time wearing chunky sweaters while curled up next to the fireplace, reading books including my book for book club, and eating hearty bowls of vegetable soup for dinner. Did you notice this pearl ring above? It is on the top of my wish list right now.

Are you fighting bitterly cold temperatures and tons of snow too?

It has been so cold here lately that all I can think about are sweaters, warm socks, and cozy coats. I am sure many of you are also having the same thoughts (especially those of you in the northeast, I hope you are managing to stay warm). This great coat is only $29 and this pretty pink one is only $44. How many days is it until spring?

4 Beautiful Winter Dresses

4 Beautiful Winter Dresses
In the Winter the cold forces us to dress more practical for the most part. We want multiple layers of thick, cozy clothes to help beat the cold. Unless you plan on spending a ton of time outside though you can still wear what you want, you just have to make the right choices. One thing I noticing a lot of people wearing a lot less of is dresses. I love how easy a dress look comes together. You have the dress, the shoes, and a few accessories and you are good to go. In Winter though, you have to choose wisely when it comes to the accessories. Wear tights or knee high socks to cover your legs. Boots are perfect for a dress and for Winter. I say the taller the better. Add a stylish coat, gloves, and a statement necklace and your dress is good for Winter. Above are four of my favorite long sleeve dresses right now. Well, one of them doesn't have long sleeves but I loved it anyway! What do you think?

Movie Night Fun

Movie Night Fun
Movie nights are one of my favorite activities. Tracy and I have hosted several movie nights with a few of our friends. It's so much fun to get all the movie snacks together and one we love to make is our Confetti Party Popcorn. We also like using movie nights with our friends to watch classic movies like Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca, and Sabrina. These are movies that everyone should watch if they haven't and we hadn't watched any of them until we watched them at movie night. Crazy right? We also have family movie nights all the time with more family friendly flicks that everyone is sure to love like Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, or pretty much any superhero movie or comedy. These appeal to our dad and brother and to us.

Let's face it, in this crazy Winter weather it is hard to plan activities that are outside. Here in Kentucky you can go from sunny and 50 in the Winter to below zero and cloudy overnight. With the weather behaving crazy it's just easier to plan things that stay inside like movie nights. To have a great movie night you just have to ensure you have three things: great snacks, great movies, and great people to watch with. What movies do you recommend for movie night?

I have been obsessed with blanket scarves for the last couple years. I finally received one as a Christmas gift (this one to be more exact). Now I am at a bit of a loss on how to wear it. I was a little shocked holding it up how massive they really are (although the term "blanket" should have really implied what their size would be like). I have done a little searching on Pinterest and have found the photos above to use as styling inspiration. I really love the belted look. It makes the scarf a great alternative to a cape, don't you think?

Do you have a blanket scarf? How do you style yours?

Winter: Hats and Scarves

Faux Fur Beanie so chic - Pink Beanie - Studded Beanie - Striped Hat - Plaid Scarf gotta have some plaid - Snowing Tree Hat so adorable - Cream Pom Pom Hat - Bright Infinity Scarf - Plaid Scarf - Patterned Infinity Scarf - Houndstooth Scarf beautiful print - Patterned Tassel Scarf

Winter: Hats and Scarves
Staying warm during the Winter months can be a problem, especially if you plan to enjoy some snowy Winter fun. Building snowmen, having snowball fights, and going sledding (all things that I plan on doing) can get quite cold. Even on days when you aren't planning to be out and about in the snow for long periods of time, the temperature can get quite cold. So every girls needs a few winter hats and scarves in a drawer. While Tracy and I were in NYC, I picked up a new hat and a new pair of gloves for myself at C Wonder. They have adorable foxes on them and the hat has a pom pom! I also have a few solids at my disposal.

Layering Up for the Great Outdoors

fitness tips for Winter

Just because it’s winter, it doesn’t mean you have an excuse to leave your fitness in hibernation. Walking is one of the healthiest forms of exercise, and going for a 30 minute walk every day can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, reduce your blood pressure and even brighten your outlook on life. But when there’s a gale howling, rain scurrying down the window panes and icy ground to navigate, you’ll need the right gear.

Layer up

Walking clothes needn’t be unfashionable, and often, you can look, and feel, great, just by layering up in the right way. Your first layer should keep you dry, so choose a material that will wick sweat away from your body like silk. Then, you’ll need a smart insulating layer like wool or fleece to keep you cozy. Finally, your outer shell, which you should ensure is water and windproof for the best possible protection against those pesky elements. Choose bright colors if you're walking anywhere with traffic - you'll want to be visible for safety reasons. Trousers should also be made from wicking material; polyester is best, and avoid cotton and jeans as they will trap moisture and make you cold!

Boot out the blisters

You don’t necessarily have to go through the expense and effort of buying a new pair of walking boots, you may well have something already that will do a good job – your trainers. A good pair of cross or trail running shoes might be the perfect fit for hitting the trail, but remember, they must fit well, and the soles should be thick enough to protect you from discomfort when the road gets rough. However, if things get wet, you might want to consider a more traditional walking shoe with a breathable lining to avoid soggy soles!

Extra protection

When it’s cold outside, the fastest way you can lose your warmth is through your head, so do be sure to keep it warm with a hat. If your head gets too hot with a full hat, wear an earband to stop Jack Frost from nipping at your lobes. Protect your neck with a warm scarf, and avoid anything made of itchy wool, or you’ll become uncomfortable from the get-go. Before you throw on that pair of windproof mittens, be sure to slick on a layer of protection from UV exposure, and a generous slick of lip balm to keep your lips from being chapped.

Now you should be ready, just remember to queue up your favorite tunes, audiobook or podcast for added fun!

Winter Hat Tricks

It has been a pretty bad winter here. Every time I turn on the news I hear weather reports of snow blasting certain areas of the country. It's been all snow, ice, and cold temperatures. I love the snow. It is so beautiful as it is falling from the sky and then it coats everything making a winter wonderland. While I am a fan of the snow, I do get tired of being stuck at home when the roads are bad. Here even after the snow and ice have stopped falling it takes a while (days) for the roads to be clear if the temperatures stay cold. So while snow days are fun too many of them in a row are bad.
This has definitely been a winter when you need to be bundled up if you are going out. One item that I love and find very versatile is a hat. Hats are perfect for wintery days. They help you stay warm and they are so cute. Depending on the type of hat you choose it could work for a casual look, work look, or a date look. I think the beanies with the pompoms are so adorable and perfect for casual looks. HERE Tracy recently posted about beanies with pompoms. She's a fan too. Felt hats are so sleek and stylish which make them perfect for going out. What are your thoughts on hats?

Winter Blues

I really want to be focusing on sundresses, floral prints, and thin layer right now but with single digit temperatures and more snow on the ground than I remember having in recent years Spring still seems very far away. Since I am a little blue about Winter's determination to stick around awhile I used that for the inspiration for this post. Surprisingly blue is a color that is largely absent in my closet. If I were to pick up a few new items this blouse, these shoes, these earrings, and this iPhone case would be at the top of my list. Check out the rest of my favorites including these fun sunglasses below.

What to Wear: Winter White

One color you have to associate with winter is white. When someone mentions winter you immediately think snow and snow is white. White is just so crisp and clean. It is so sophisticated and looks so put together when you wear an all white look. I am a huge fan of the color white, even though I rarely wear it. The reason being that I hate doing laundry. And it's like some unwritten law that whenever I do wear white I get something on it that requires immediate washing when I make it home. Do you also have this problem? So this week my #whattowear look is going to be a white out. What do you think of the look below? I would also love to have this white dress.

Friday Favorites

This past week I have been very glad for anything that can keep me warm. It has been so cold. When I watch the weather and I see the temperatures in places further north I feel for everyone up there. It is cold here and but nothing like those temperatures up north. When I venture out warm socks, gloves, earmuffs, and a hat are necessary other than the typical coat. I would love to have these Hunter boots to add to my winter wardrobe. What do you think?

Smitten with Mittens

With all of the below zero temperatures we have been having we all need to dress for warmth when we go out. One must have winter accessory is gloves. There are just so many beautiful options out there. I am a fan of them all. Mittens are so adorable and perfect for keeping your hands warm and comfy. Plus all of the fun colors and patterns are so beautiful. Leather gloves are classy and definitely a must for pairing with my work clothes. I really like brown leather gloves the best. I do not own a pair of the gloves that come up to my elbows like in the first picture, but they are beautiful. I love the bright color and the button details. The furry mittens are also very girly and cute as well. Which is your favorite type? Has it been very cold where you are?

Today I thought I would share some cuteness with you all. These animals are so adorable. Sometimes I browse pinterest for cute animal pictures or cute cat pictures just because they brighten my day. You can't help be smile when you look at pictures like the ones above. Do you find yourself looking at pictures of adorable animals sometimes like I do? While cats are my favorite animal I find almost all of them adorable. Which animal is your favorite?

What To Wear: To Stay Warm

The temperatures have became so frigid the last couple weeks that I dread any time I need to go outside and I have been struggling to stay warm. Sweaters have been my friend lately and I love a good cable knit. Pair it with jeans and a warm coat and you have my uniform lately. Have you been dealing with snow, ice, and freezing temperatures too?

Chit Chat

I love that December is here. In December everyone is thinking about the holidays. Being in the Christmas spirit is so joyful and cheery. I find myself randomly singing Christmas carols as I am going about my normal business. Just yesterday as I was sweeping the floor I realized that I was singing Winter Wonderland even though I had not consciously decided to do so. I rush to check the mail when I first get home, so that I can see if any new Christmas Cards have arrived! Thanks to the girls who joined our Christmas Card exchange! I have already received half a dozen cards from them! Does anyone else want to exchange cards with me? I find myself looking for Santa when I go shopping or listening for the, "Ho, Ho, HO! Merry Christmas!" It always puts a smile on my face. While driving I take notice of all of the Christmas lights and decorations. I am already scanning the tv guide for my favorite Christmas movies! I'm having a blast taunting my siblings with the fact that they do not know what wonderful gifts I have picked out for them this year!
There is just so much to love about December. Isn't there? What are some of your favorite things?

Color Crush: Teal

I typically do not see very many people wearing teal on a daily basis and that might be why I am currently crushing on it. It is an intense, deep, rich color and is a beautiful jewel tone for this holiday season. This robe is so price friendly and feminine it would be a perfect gift for your best friend or yourself. This sweater would be beautiful with a black pencil skirt for the office and look at how stunning these earrings are.

Winter Nail Polish

I have recently signed up for Julep Maven Boxes. To become a Maven you need to Julep's website and sign up for however many months you want it. It is $20 a month and you receive a box of 2-3 Julep nail polishes and another Julep item. I will get my first box soon! Anyway, this has me thinking about winter nail polish colors. This winter I think that glitter, sparkle, and metallics are very in, which makes me very happy because they are my favorites and even if they weren't in I would still be wearing them. Other than these I think red is a classic winter color, just because of Christmas. Also winter always makes me think of blues and blacks because of dark snowy days.

I am a strong believer in even if it isn't in you should still wear what you want and what you like. So other than my glitter, sparkle, and metallics, I will be wearing my greens and pinks because I love them. What colors will you be wearing?

Winter Shoe Guide

This winter I have not seen much snow yet. I always wish for a snowy Christmas, because it just seems more Christmas-y if there is snow on the ground. This year I didn't get a white Christmas though. Thinking about snow though had me thinking about my footwear. For me in winter certain types of shoes are a must. I need shoes that are going to cover my feet and keep the snow out. Hopefully they also get my feet warm. So on my winter footwear list are boots for sure. Any kind of boots will do like knee high boots, calf-high boots, even ankle boots. If I am going to be wearing heels in the winter they are going to have to be wide heels like block heels not skinny heels. On ice and snow I need shoes that are going to let me stay balanced- no skinny heels are going to do that for me. Other than boots and block heels, but I also need flats like oxfords. Some of my winter shoe choices are below.
Winter Shoe Guide

Rustic Ankle Booties - Black Ruched Ankle Boots - Brown Riding Boots - Tan Ruched Knee Boots - Autumn Adore Stone Booties - Studded Leather Boots - Black Calf-High Boots - Tan Strap Knee Boots - Glitter Block Heels - Gold Sparkle Loafers - Studded Wingtip Flats - Silver Glitter Oxfords - Black Oxford Mid-High Heels - Glitter Oxford Flats
What about you? What are some of your go to shoe choices for winter and what are some shoes that you do not wear in the winter?
