5 Denim Must Haves

5 Denim Must Haves

Denim is a closet staple for everyone and I'm not just talking about denim jeans here. Denim comes in all different shapes and colors. It's a fabric that can be very casual or dressed up depending on the wash and how you form the rest of your look. I believe that there are 5 denim must haves that every girl should have in her closet. These 5 pieces are necessary for a well rounded closet because they can be used to create so many different looks. Another great thing about denim is that it is a material that we wear year round and these must have pieces work year round too.

I know denim jeans are a staple in my closet. When I'm not going to work or off to one of those rare occasions that requires a dress I'm in jeans. Most family get-togethers or casual evenings with friends finds me dressed in jeans. So out of these 5 pieces, jeans are the most important to me. What denim pieces are a must for your wardrobe?

ONE // Denim Button Down Shirt. These are perfect on their own or layered over another top. When layering I like to use a print like a stripe or a floral for underneath.

TWO // Denim Jacket. For me this is more of a Fall or Spring piece, but it also works on cool Summer nights or in a layered look for Winter. I love a denim jacket over a cute dress. It just provides a little toughness to a feminine dress.

THREE // Denim Shorts. Definitely a Summer staple here. Throw on a casual tee and slip on sneakers and you are good to go.

FOUR // Denim Skirt. A skirt is one way to wear denim to work on a semi-casual day. Whether you pair it with a tee or a nicer top it works either way.

FIVE // Denim Jeans. I'm sure most people own at least a half dozen pairs of denim jeans in different cuts and washes. For me, out of all the choices, every girl should have a nice dark wash jean. A good dark wash is very easy to dress up for work or to wear in a casual look when hanging out with friends.

What To Wear: On A Snow Day

What To Wear: Snow Day
Cable Sweater (a favorite!) / Scarf / Coat / Pearl Necklace (classic) / Pave Stud Earrings / Emerald Ring / Pearl Ring (love this!) / Bow Beanie (adorable) / Gloves / Bucket Bag / Jeans

After having a snow storm that dropped more snow here than we have had since I was a little girl I have been enjoying snow days the last couple days. As a result I have been spending my time wearing chunky sweaters while curled up next to the fireplace, reading books including my book for book club, and eating hearty bowls of vegetable soup for dinner. Did you notice this pearl ring above? It is on the top of my wish list right now.

Are you fighting bitterly cold temperatures and tons of snow too?

What To Wear: Easy And Feminine

What To Wear: Easy and Feminine
Frill Sleeve Top (beautiful shade of pink) / Pearly Fuchsia Lipstick / Coach Poppy Rollerball / Tai Asymmetrical Bangle / Star and Moon Bangle / Boyfriend Bangle / Jeans / Stack Rings / Earrings / Essie Too Taboo / Foldover Clutch (only $40) / Leopard Flats (to die for)

Jeans are a staple for me. I typically wear a pair at least a couple days a week. I love dressing them up with a feminine blouse and this one is incredible with its ruffle sleeves and tie black (and did I mention it is only $35!). Lately I have really been into wearing my jeans with leopard shoes and this pair is at the top of my wish list. Are jeans a staple for you too? How do you dress yours up?

What To Wear: A Casual Uniform

What To Wear: A Casual Uniform
Every girl needs a go to look they can rely on on days when they are running late, not feeling their best, or need something to put on without giving it too much thought. Below is my go to uniform for casual days. A striped tee, dark jeans, a bright lip, a statement necklace, a large tote, and comfy shoes preferably in leopard is perfect for days when I am in a hurry to get dressed but I always still feel chic and put together when meeting up with friends, going out to lunch, catching a movie, or running errands. I have about a dozen striped tees, numerous pairs of dark wash denim jeans, and too many to count statement necklaces that allow me to always mix and match without failing. What is your go to uniform on casual days?

Striped Tee (so comfy) / Necklace / Aviator Sunglasses / Jeans / Tote (perfect for on the go days) / Stardust Earrings / NARS Lipstick in Schiap / Leopard Flats ( here is an alternative for only $23)

Grey's Anatomy: Gray Jeans
Jeans are a go to piece for me on casual days. I typically stick to dark denim but lately gray jeans have really been catching my eye. I first recommended them here. I recently had lunch with a friend who showed up wearing this pair that are very affordable. She looked so chic. Gray jeans are a fresh take on denim for spring and summer. What do you think?

Denim Days of Summer

Who doesn't love denim? Denim is perfect year round. When it comes to denim the options are unlimited. You have shorts, jeans, tops, dresses, skirts, jackets, etc. Then you have so many options for the color of the denim and if you want distressed or not. Personally, I love all things denim. Jeans are a staple in my closet especially the dark wash kind. The right pair of jeans can take you out running errands, have you relaxing at home, take you out with friends, and even sometimes be work appropriate depending on how you style the rest of your look. Also, I think a great denim vest or jacket looks so sweet over a feminine summer dress. Those items can be great for transitioning some Summer items into Fall. Right now I am really loving this pleated denim skirt and this denim vest.
Do you have a favorite denim item your closet like I do? How do you normal style a pair of denim jeans?

Some many things can be made from denim and pretty much everyone loves to have some denim pieces at their fingertips. Really, your closest isn't complete if you don't have at least a few denim pieces floating around in there. The best thing to keep in mind when wearing denim is not to go all out with denim and over do it. There are denim pieces that can fit into anyone's style shorts, tops, dresses, or jackets. Depending on the wash of the denim it can easily be dressed up or completely casual. I hope you all take some inspiration from the photos above on different ways to wear denim pieces and if you can lacking in this department, maybe you will go out and buy a few pieces.

A Short Story

It has been hot where we live lately. With all of the heat advisories being issued it is definitely time to make sure all of those shorts in your closet are getting their fair share of wear time. Although I often picture shorts as something to wear when just hanging out or runnings errands I'm starting to realize that shorts can be dressed up for a casual work environment. I think either of these looks would be good for a more casual office, for school or for going out to an early dinner with friends.

A tip with pairing a denim jacket with denim shorts or pants is to make sure that your shirt is longer than your jacket so there is something between the denim to break it apart.
