Snow Day

Snow Day
On Saturday it started snowing here and it has been snowing on and off since. We have over a foot of snow outside and freezing temperatures. We may even make it to twenty below zero tonight. Until now we haven't had much of a winter, just a few snow falls that covered the grass. And we still have chances of snow every day for the next seven days. My students that have been wishing for snow have certainly gotten it.

So, it has been an easy week for me. No work this week because school has been cancelled. One school even had on the news this morning that it was going to be closed until further notice! So, what have I been doing with all of my my free time? Honestly, I have been trying to stay busy here at home, because I am bored. Sure, I love the break from work but with the bad weather and horrible road conditions, I can't go anywhere. I live 20 miles from the nearest town. So, I'm pretty much stuck out here until the roads are safe to travel on.

Like, I said I have been trying to stay busy though. I have cleaned and organized my bedroom. I have been getting crafty with Tracy and trying to get a few more DIY projects done. We made some more hair ties using DIY instructions we have already posted on the blog. We also finished a couple of other things that we will post about soon and hopefully we will do a few more DIY projects in the next few days. I have tried a new cake recipe, that you will see soon. I read two books and ordered a few more from Amazon. We have also had family board game time the past two days and have tried to teach our mom how to play a few of the board games we love. In the evenings Tracy, our brother, and I have popped popcorn and had Grimm marathons. I love that show.

So, what's the weather like were you are? Do you have any suggestions on how I can spend my snow days stuck at home? Any DIY projects or recipes I should try?

What To Wear: On A Snow Day

What To Wear: Snow Day
Cable Sweater (a favorite!) / Scarf / Coat / Pearl Necklace (classic) / Pave Stud Earrings / Emerald Ring / Pearl Ring (love this!) / Bow Beanie (adorable) / Gloves / Bucket Bag / Jeans

After having a snow storm that dropped more snow here than we have had since I was a little girl I have been enjoying snow days the last couple days. As a result I have been spending my time wearing chunky sweaters while curled up next to the fireplace, reading books including my book for book club, and eating hearty bowls of vegetable soup for dinner. Did you notice this pearl ring above? It is on the top of my wish list right now.

Are you fighting bitterly cold temperatures and tons of snow too?

Winter has definitely arrived here. Sure the season started some time ago, but it never really felt like winter. We had a couple of cold days but nothing like the last couple of days. Definitely nothing like what is forecasted for the upcoming days. We are having single digit temperatures here, but mixed with the chilly wind it definitely feels below zero.
We don't live in the city or even in a small town. We live on a farm and it takes a good twenty-five minute drive to reach the nearest small town. With the weather that we have been having the road conditions haven't really permitted us to even drive that far. So just what is a girl to do when the weather is not cooperating with any outside excursions?
I'm sure that we can all agree on a few things. Sipping hot chocolate while snuggling under a blanket by the fireplace is an absolute must on a snowy day. My siblings and I like to come together to watch our favorite movies with some popcorn and candy. I love to read and always have a stack of books in the corner of my bedroom that I am working my way through. The perfect opportunity for reading is on a snow day from work. Since learning how to sew and quilt not too long ago, I always have a project started. On days when I am stuck inside I have plenty of time to to get a little sewing done. Bad weather days are also a great time to bake a new recipe that I have been wanting to try. This past weekend I made Smores Cake. It was delicious! What do you like to do when the weather keeps you inside?

The Inside Story

Lately, we have had a lot of snowy or rainy days. The snow or rain combined with the cold temperatures have forced us to stay indoors on those days. We have taken advantage of these days to have some fun inside. One day we spent the evening playing board games with the rest of the family. One night Tracy and our brother surprised me with everything you need for a movie night. We watched the latest Batman and Spiderman movies. I highly recommend them. In this post I have listed some ideas for what you can do on a rainy/snowy day when you just don't want to get out.
Work on or update your Inspiration Board.

You can write letters to friends and family on beautiful Stationary .

Spend time in the kitchen making a family favorite or try a new recipe like this Red Velvet Cheesecake.

You could spend time catching up on something like organizing your closet.

Be crafty.

When the weather permits you from going out, what do you do?

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, all I long for is wintery days. I want snow to fall and wrap around the hills like a blanket. I love to wake up in the Winter to find that snow has fallen over night and the ground sparkles like diamonds. What I wouldn't give for a relaxing snow day.

Snow Day

Waking up to find that snow has fallen over night is normally a pleasant surprise. When a blanket of snow has covered everything, I can't help but be amazed by the beauty of it all. Here when several inches of snow fall the roads are terrible with ice and snow.

This usually results in a snow day for me, because my work will be called off. Sometimes this provides a refreshing break for my normal routine and I am very thankful for it. Sometimes, after having work for only a couple of days in a months time, it can become very boring and I actually look forward for days when the snow melts and I can go to work.

One of my favorite snow day activites is to curl up by the fire and read. Having a fire in the fireplace on snowy days makes the house seem so warm and cozy. And it is the perfect time to catch up on my reading or to pet my cat, who loves to come indoors and escape the snow.
