The Single Girl's Guide to Valentine's Day: 8 Ideas for Owning the Day

I know there are people out there who hate Valentine’s Day but I just cannot be one of those people. Is it cheesy? Yes. Do I accept that it is kind of a superficial holiday? Yes. But it is a holiday and the most girly of all holidays. How could I possibly dislike a day filled with pinks and reds, glitter, hearts, flowers, and chocolates. If you know anything about me you know that is just now possible.

I also might be one of the few people that this applies to but being single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t bother me. I am going to choose to embrace the day and have fun. So if you are single come February 14th don’t let it get you down. Below are my eight ideas for how single girls can spend Valentine’s Day and actually enjoy the holiday.

ONE // Spend the night with your celebrity crush. Whether it is Jake Gyllenhall, Ryan Gosling, or Johnny Depp get a few of his movies, pick up your favorite dinner, and devote the night to spending some quality time with your celebrity crush.

TWO // Treat yourself. There is no one better to spend the money you worked hard to earn on than yourself. So since there is no guy in the picture waiting for a Valentine’s Day gift from you take yourself to the salon for a new hairstyle, buy yourself that handbag or dress you have been coveting, or treat yourself to a mani/pedi.

THREE // Play hooky with your best friend. Who wants to stay at work seeing the flower deliveries all day. Convince your best friend to spend the day doing something fun like going to the theater to see a romantic comedy, shopping, or going to a museum.

FOUR // Volunteer. Spread some love by doing something totally selfless and helping others who are less fortunate. I bet you will end the day feeling great about yourself.

FIVE // Throw a party for your single girlfriends. Surround yourself with some of your best girlfriends. Over indulge in good food and drinks. Laugh and gossip and just in general enjoy their company. Suggest that everyone wear pink (or go the opposite route and designate black as the color for your get-together). The DIY balloons from Studio DIY would be great decor or gifts for your friends.

SIX // Organize a secret cupid. Draw names with a group of your single friends and then deliver a gift to each other so that everyone can have a Valentine.

SEVEN // Enjoy your own company. Remind yourself how lucky you are. You can do whatever you want without having to take into consideration a significant other. Make a list of activities you have been wanting to do and spend Valentine’s Day marking a few of them off of your list or simply spend the day reading a great book or cooking a recipe from scratch.

EIGHT // Ignore Valentine’s Day. There is no reason you have to make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day. If you really cannot see any way you could possibly enjoy the day just treat it like any other day. Stay home to avoid the couples, order take out, and watch Netflix. Tomorrow will be better.

Valentine's Day is nearing and masses of couples are going to be arranging date nights and going out. If you do have a special someone and are planning on dressing up for the day, I think this is the perfect look. This metallic dress would be perfect to wear. I know most people associate reds and pinks with Valentine's Day but I love the soft gold dress and think it is so romantic. I accented this look with a soft pink coat and other white and gold accessories because I am more of a fan of pink than red, plus I just think gold and pink look so great together. Don't you? You might be wondering where the hearts and other Valentine's Day things are. Did you notice the gold hearts on the heels? Adorable right?

On The Menu: Strawberry White Chocolate Chunk Brownies

I wasn't sure what to call this recipe. These are not really brownies but they are not blondies either. They are however delicious, dense, and full of strawberry flavor and white chocolate chips. They are also so incredibly easy to make, only have 5 ingredients, and would be the perfect treat to give to your Valentine. Who could resist this pretty pink treat?

Ingredients:
1 box strawberry cake mix
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup canola oil
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9x13 pan with nonstick spray.
2. Combine the cake mix, egg, and canola oil.
3. Slowly add the milk.
4. Stir in 1 cup of the white chocolate chips.
5. The batter will be very thick. Press the batter into the pan.
6. Bake for 20 minutes or until the edges are beginning to turn brown.
7. Allow to cool.
8. Melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler. Drizzle across the brownies and allow to set before cutting.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner. As a hopeless romantic it is a little odd but I think Valentine's Day is kind of cheesy. While it may not be one of my favorite holidays I do love dressing in the appropriate colors of pink and red for the day. Each item included above is under $50 and very beautiful. I love this romantic rose print skirt, feminine chiffon top and bow adorned heels. I have mentioned on here before that one of the best purchases I have ever made is a pink coat. It always receives compliments and just makes me happy to wear. This pink coat is a great bargain at only $39.

DIY: Valentine Heart Cupcake Toppers

Valentine's Day is the perfect holiday to make a sweet treat for your family, friends, and coworkers. Cupcakes are easy to distribute because they are individually portioned already. Use a cute cupcake wrapper and make this Heart Cupcake Topper to make them more festive and more beautiful. I made a vanilla cupcake and a pink frosting for my cupcakes. I have already shared these with my family and friends and they loved them. They thought they were so adorable. Plus these cupcake toppers are so easy and quick to make.

Glitter Hearts
Rubber Cement
Tooth Picks
Cupcakes

1. You can use glitter scrapbooking paper to make your own hearts or buy them already made. I found mine at the Dollar Tree in the party section. They were hearts you could scatter on tables for decorations.
2. Use the rubber cement to attach hearts to the tooth picks, one to the front and one to the back.
3. Make your favorite cupcakes and then add the cupcake toppers to each. Share and enjoy.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Upon waking this morning I could immediately think of three good reasons to be happy that today is today. First, I didn't have to work today, which due to all of the snow days we have been having shouldn't be something I am celebrating, but I have an assignment for my online class that I need to work on. Second, it was Friday, so YAY weekend! Third, it's Valentine's Day! Even though I do not have a special someone to share the day with, I just find it sweet that we have a day where lots of couples are sharing/showing their affection for one another. Also, I don't really think of Valentine's Day as just for couples. I think it is a great day to show anyone that you care about that you care. What to Wear: Valentine's Day Date

Valentine's Day is a day to express your feelings to the people that you love and care about. Flowers, chocolates, or Valentine cards are seen everywhere on this day. Couples are seen spending time together and going out on dates. Do you have any plans for this Valentine's Day? I don't have any plans except for work and that is if the weather permits it. So far snow days for Monday and Tuesday. Maybe things will look better tomorrow?

What To Wear: To Work On Valentine's Day

One of the few things I really love about my about job is that the work environment isn't as formal as what I typically expect for a law firm. I just do not know if I could handle having to go to work each day in black or navy matching suit pieces. I don't think court will be on my schedule for Valentine's Day so this week's #whattowear depicts very closely what I will be wearing to celebrate the day. I love the combination of pink and red. Prepping For Valentine's Day

While I wouldn't necessarily call myself a girl who loves Valentine's Day I do greatly appreciate any occasion that calls for celebration. Also honestly I cannot deny my huge love of anything pink, red, or covered in hearts. Be Mine Strawberry Brownies

Chewy, chocolaty brownies have long been one of my favorite treats so when I saw strawberry brownies I instantly wanted to try them. The recipe is so simple. Plus, you likely have all of the ingredients (with the exception of the cake mix) already in your kitchen. This delicious treat can easily and quickly be whipped together as a special treat for your Valentine.

Ingredients:

1 Box Strawberry Cake Mix
2 Eggs
1/3 Cup Oil

Directions:
1. Mix together the three ingredients. The mixture will be thick.

2. Press the mixture into a 9x13 pan that has been sprayed with nonstick spray.
3. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 14 minutes.
4. Option: Once out of the oven and while still warm you can spread a glaze consisting of 1 cup powdered sugar and 3 tablespoons milk.
5. Allow to cool on a wire rack.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, some of you have probably been thinking about what to get your significant other. I have spent some time thinking about it and I believe that I have come up with some fantastic Valentine's Day gift ideas for her and for him.

While looking online for a romantic, unique gift idea for her I came across the idea of Personalized Books. Some website will take famous stories, that almost everyone has heard of and they will personalize them for you. The main characters in the books will be changed to whatever names you want. For Valentine's Day you could choose a famous love story and have the names changed to yours and your sweetie. The first website here only has a couple of options, with the only romantic one being Romeo and Julliet. The second has more options, and you get to personalize to a greater detail, going as far as what hair and eye color you want the character to have as well as the name.
