Stylish for Less: Work-Wear Under $50
Posted by Jessica
I love all of the above items for a work wardrobe. They are all under $50 each. They are beautiful, feminine, and would cover you enough to be appropriate for work. These hoops are a steal at only $12 and could be worn with any outfit. I am absolutely in love with dress- the floral print is wonderful. While I find both of the heels above stunning, I know I couldn't wear them all day without my feet killing me. I have to be up on my feet too much to wear shoes like those all day. I could see myself wearing them and changing into flats half-way through the day though. What do you think about my picks?

Chit Chat: Success at Work
Posted by Jessica
Recently, Tracy and I were talking about work. More specifically, we were talking about excelling at work. At first I had to ponder this and I told Tracy that I didn't think I was excelling at work. I told her I believed I was in the middle of the pack. I didn't think I was doing horrible and I didn't think I was displaying excellence. So, I decided that I must just be mediocre at my job. This was a little unnerving, because I don't want to just be mediocre. Do you? A little while later though, I realized several things that have happened recently at work that show I am not mediocre. In the last few months a few things have happened that helped me realize that I must be doing great at my job.
I have had several successes at work in the last school year. Last year I was chosen to be the math representative on our school-wide literacy team. This team consists of one person from each subject taught at our school. I was also asked to present at a math conference last year by a couple of people who have been coming to our school to lead math strategy PLC trainings. In January I was chosen to attend the Math Design Collaborative meetings for our high school math team. I have been attending these meetings and am expected to bring back what I learn to share with the other high school math teachers. Recently our student government also voted me "teacher of the week" at our school. I find this to be an honor that our students chose me. We are also taking part in a new math program this year and a lady from the program comes once a month to sit in on a lesson and to offer advice. The last time she came she told our program coach (who later told me) that I had excellent classroom management skills.
Sometimes it is easy to get drawn into the hectic schedule, making plans, and all the hard work that it is easy to doubt yourself. It is easy to think you aren't living up to your expectations and easy to think you aren't doing as much as you should. But if you take a few minutes and really think about it, I bet you have had some recent successes at work too that will show you just how excellent you have been doing your job.

Chit Chat: Job Recognition
Posted by Jessica
Our math team has been undergoing some training since the beginning of July. These people have been great and providing us with some strategies that I think will really help our students and help us to be better teachers. Based on our training and what they have seen from our classrooms, they have asked me to attend a math conference with them and present with them. I took this as a huge compliment and feel very grateful that they have chosen me to present with them at the conference.
I try really hard at my job. I want my students to be successful and not just at math. I want them to leave my class knowing what it takes to be a successful student. I want them to know that there are people that care about them and want them to succeed at school and life. I am proud of all of their accomplishments whether it is in the math classroom, an essay contest, a sports recognition, or winning at an FFA competition. My job can be very trying and stressful at times, especially when it feels like no one is appreciating the hard work that I put into. I spend time planning lessons, getting materials ready, and planning for discussion during and after the lesson. It can be frustrating when some students blow it off or act like it doesn't matter and even more so when more and more responsibilities and duties are being put on your shoulders. While it can be hard, it is very nice when someone else takes notice of your abilities and work ethic.

Under Stress

I am feeling very overwhelmed, stressed, and exhausted. I feel as if I am always on the go. My work days keep getting longer and longer but my to-do list is not getting any shorter. Even when I do get home each night I feel anxious thinking about all of the work that I still need to complete. I volunteered almost a month ago to take on a lot of added responsibility at work in an attempt to grow my career that I feared was stalling. I hope to reap some benefits from these added responsibilities in the near future but right now they are simply leaving me with little time or energy for anything outside of work. In fact when I look forward to each new day I already know one of the things I want most is to take a nap, but there will not be any time to pencil napping into my schedule any time soon.
I would love to know your tips or tricks for handling anxiety and stress. And if anyone has advice for how to know you are on the right career path or how to determine what your dream job is please share. For now I am going to try to focus on the below quote.

It's Off To Work We Go
Posted by Jessica
Can you believe that the holidays are over? There is so much anticipation and preparing and then just like that they are over. Every year I'm a little shocked by how quickly it just comes to an end and we are expected to suddenly resume normal activity. It's hard to accept but after almost 3 weeks off from work I have to return to the office today and get some major work done. One of the definite perks to my new job is the extended breaks the office gets for the holidays.
I should have been much more productive during my 3 weeks off from work and I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I achieved very little aside from doing a lot of baking, organizing my closet, and doing a major cleaning of my bedroom.
I started my break thinking I would get so much accomplished. But instead the snow kept me mostly indoors, I was sick most of the first week off, and frankly I was just extremely tired. I needed a break desperately and during my time off I found myself sleeping way too much and watching lots of holiday movies on TV. Now that I should be well rested let's just hope I can get back in the swing of things and don't spend every morning fighting with my alarm clock. ♥ Sunny

She Works Hard for the Money

You definitely don't have to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks. Just like any other girl the latest designer looks sometimes make me a little starry eyed but working long, often stressful days makes me a very conscious shopper. I like splurging occasionally on presents for myself but I usually I want to get a lot of bang for my buck. And pulling together a great budget friendly look makes me super happy.
Casual Friday This look would be prefect for casual Friday or for a busy weekend running errands. Shirt dresses are a classic piece and and be useful in a number of situations so every girl should look for the right one to add to their closet. Comfy flats are a must and I love that this pair is two toned. I paired this look with the red scarf and red earrings for a pop of color and to also add some interest while still being office appropriate.
Shirt Dress $23 - forever21.com
T-Bar Shoes $50 - topshop.com
Nihan Bag $50 - monsoon.co.uk
Rose Studs $6.25 - missselfridge.com
Scarf $16 - modcloth.com
High Power Meeting This is for when you need to look your best at work. This look has a lot of style and sophistication. I added the ring to give the outfit a little more of my own personality. Point toe pumps are great. They make your legs look very long and slim.
Blazer $34 - spiegel.com
Military pencil skirt $31 - debenhams.com
Heels $26 - buckle.com
Pear Studs $8.42 - asos.com
Quilted Handbag $23 - janenorman.co.uk
Cream Ruffle Blouse $44 - missselfridge.com
Ring $4.80 - forever21.com
Out with Coworkers The caridgan and round toe pumps make this look great for the office. But the accessories I've added bring some fun to the look and make it a little whimsical. Isn't the bicycle pendenant adorable? As you head out with colleagues after work you can lose the caridgan.
Caridgan $25 - aeropostale.com
Dress $31 - delias.com
Pumps $22 - amiclubwear.com
Necklace $4.80 - canada.forever21.com
Flower Studs $6.25 - monsoon.co.uk
Fairytale Brooch Set $19 - monsoon.co.uk
Faux Leather Tote $23 - oldnavy.gap.com
On the Go Sometimes having a great pair of pants for work is very important. When work has you running around everywhere it is important to be comfortable. If I'm constantly on the go pants and comfortable flats are a must. While this look is comfy the belted cardigan and wide leg trousers make it look very pulled together. Add a couple simple stylish accessories and you're ready to head to work. I've added a clutch to keep inside your handbag for you to keep bare necessities in for when it would be inconvenient to be carrying around a lot of items.
Cardigan $18 - kmart.com
Tank $18 - madewell.com
Trousers $44 - dorothyperkins.com
Envelop Brooch $9.38 - monsoon.co.uk
